Emily Sargent (1857-1936) is a 19th century watercolor artist. [1] Her influences to indulge in the arts was heavily caused by her family and well recognized brother John Singer Sargent. Discovering work consisted of 400 landscape watercolors in the Attic. According to the DailyArt Magazine, Emily Sargents work has been donated from The Sargent family to Britain Tate Museum with others across other decided art museums.

Her Mother, Mary Newbold Singer, has had struggled with lost of children failing to grow up past childhood. Being in need to break away from such heartache. Her father, Fitzwilliam, practiced in the medical field of being an eye surgeon. With there well cumulated savings and wage. They leave the United States and move to Europe.[2] With the moving multiple time throughout the year with seasons. Giving the opportunity to see many landscapes for their Artwork.

Skill and Techniques

Emily has been made art from the travels with her family. Her technique has influences from her older brother, John, both have gotten along growing up. Use of pencil first then layering heavily with the watercolor to create the planes and depth in her landscapes. When her father died in 1889, she continued to create art. Her mother and Emily has gotten teachings from the Artists, Julius Rolshoven and Charles Wellington Furse. [3]
