"'Laurence Ernest Rowland Picken"'(16 July 1909--16 March 2000) was a British polymath who made important contributions to the fields of biology and musicology. musicologist. He is best known for his reconstruction of Tang Dynasty music.

Life

Laurence Picken was born in Nottingham, England. Despite an early interest in and gift for music, Picken studied natural sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge, taking double firsts in 1938.
