Biography
Tony Rankin in (Chicago, August 24, 1957) an American musician/composer has always realized that there was no choice in being a musician. He was the founder of Rankinfyle Jazz Rhythm Masters, sm and always remained the pianist/keyboardist for the band. (Rankin, his last name and fyle represents: For Your Listening Experience).Tony feels that this was slated for him in life. “Music is my passion and is the very thing that keeps me going”, says Tony. At age 10, he began playing the guitar mimicking some James Brown sounds. Later he began playing the drums and did so for about 3 years with a local R&B band. Then he played the upright bass, electric bass and trombone. At age 16, he played bass in concert performances for Motown’s R&B artists’ Garland Green and the Marvelettes. Now, Tony has brought the rhythmic flavor to the piano with influences of the sounds of James Brown, Oscar Peterson and Joe Sample. Rankinfyle delivers contemporary urban jazz grooves that are high energy and expressively riveting. Rankinfyle was formed in 1990 and has been providing firepower performances every single week since 1992. Formerly, Tony was hired to teach band & orchestra for the Chicago Park District for disadvantaged students ranging from 6-50yrs of age. He established a proven track record as a successful band & orchestra director by indoctrinating what he had learned musically, to others. As a musician and innovative composer, Tony has toured many countries providing energized performances, including Oman, Dubai, (U.A.E.), and Europe and has created some outstanding television and radio commercials for Pizza Hut and other businesses. He is one of the most versatile artists from Chicago.
‘Rankinfyle’ CD, “Twine Time”
Tony’s interpretation of “Twine Time” during this vital era of our lives yearns that it is time to come together and enthrall the most precious thing we have, life. “Twine Time” flourishes that now is the time to end violence in the Middle East, Africa, throughout the world and especially in our own backyard, and intertwine as a people of one race. The human race. There is no satisfying answer to explain or compensate for the lives that have been taken in war and violence. The murders; the suicides; the onslaught of genocides; the families. The saddest element of war & violence is the act itself. Ask this question: Did anyone consult with God before deciding to take lives? I think not. God would not approve. As a people, we should suffer not another day; another month; another year; another lifetime. We all need to strive unyieldingly to end war and violence, for if not, our very own existence in the human race will be destroyed. peace & love
The “Twine Time” CD incorporates smooth jazz and contemporary sounds with some old school flavor in tracks like “A Night to Remember”, “Twine Time”, “It’s All About You” and “Unplugged”. The CD has great vocal contributions by special guests Dee Alexander and Perrian Jordan and flourishes contemporary urban sounds that move to the groove BaBy! Tony composed 7 of 10 tracks on this CD that are brilliantly conveyed and demonstrates evocative solos and production attributes. The CD is explosive when it opens up with “Break Off” and continues the drive with “Pea Pod” and a stepper’s groove flavor in “Cuizin”. The CD later gives you another stepper’s groove from the track “I Love You” which demonstrates great vocal duo interpretation and feeling by Dee & Perrian.
This CD was tracked with huge success thanks to Tony’s musician friends; Buddy Fambro, Chuck Webb, Kahari Parker, Michael Manson, Linard Stroud, Kenny Anderson, Dee Alexander, Perrian Jordan, John Bowes and Brian Gephart.
A very special thanks goes out to God, my wife and family & friends of inspiration.
