New York Interstate shields design. In the 1880s to 1950s, Interstate shields use a black border, a black legend of the word "INTERSTATE" on top, black legend of the numbers on bottom and a white background. From the late 1950s, Interstate shields use a white border, a white legend of the word "INTERSTATE" on top, a white legend of the numbers on bottom, a red background on top and a blue background on bottom.
