Baso and Hyakujo[edit]

The following story appears as case 53 in The Blue Cliff Record: Baso and Hyakujo were out walking when some wild ducks flew by. Baso asked, "What is that?"

Hyakuko replied "Wild ducks."

Baso asked, "Where are they?"

Hyakujo said, "They have flown away."

Baso suddenly gave Hyakujo's nose a hard pinch, causing Hyakujo to cry out in pain. Baso said, "There, how can they have flown away?" ^[2]
