Grief Ritual are a blackened hardcore band from the South West, UK, who formed in late 2018.
Grief Ritual combine elements of hardcore, black metal, doom, grindcore and post-metal to create a raw abrasive sound that can shift from the crushingly heavy to bleak ethereal funeral drone inside the space of one song.
In December 2018 Grief Ritual self-released their thirteen minute debut EP 'Life is a Phase', which was described as "five tracks of truly brutal hardcore that veers into sonically unique territory without losing any of its impact", by Caleb Newton of Captured Howls Zine / New Noise Magazine. 'Life is a Phase' was then released on tape by DIY Label F H E D in March 2019.
In July they were crowned the first ever winners of the Cheltenham regional Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses competition and performed on the Hobgoblin New Blood stage at Bloodstock Open Air 2019 in August of the same year. They were described by the website 'Bloggers Gamut' as "...imagine Behemoth’s Nergal joining Converge with the raw energy of Vein and you’ve got it".
Their second EP 'Moments of Suffering' was released in October 2019. The five-tracks were recorded and mixed with Joe Clayton (Pijn / Leeched) at No Studio, mastered by Brad Boatright of Audiosiege. .
