The Tour de Bronx is an annual bicycle tour of the borough of the Bronx in New York City.

History[edit]

The first Tour de Bronx was held in 1994, founded by Borough President Fernando Ferrer, with this first tour having only a few hundred riders. Ridership peaked before the Covid pandemic at over 10,000.[1] In 2020, Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. noted that the Tour was "the largest free cycling event in the country"[2] and in 2021 called it "one of my favorite events of the year."[3] Routes have varied somewhat over the years, but have traditionally started near the Bronx County Courthouse on the Grand Concourse, looped through the South Bronx, Soundview, and Pelham Bay for a 25-mile (40 km) route and added City Island and Riverdale for a 40-mile (64 km) route, with both routes ending at the New York Botanical Garden[citation needed]

As of 2006, the Woodlawn Cemetery, where bicycle traffic is normally forbidden, is open to bikes for the single day of the Tour.[4]
