Sockpuppetry is a major problem on wikipedia, used to evade editing restrictions. Some socks are throw-away accounts used by people who edit wikipedia as a business. For each new job they take on, they create a new account (or a bunch of them). More likely, they just activate an account they created some time ago and warehoused; a sleeper. As accounts get caught and blocked, they just move on to another one.

We have a few weapons in the endless war against socks, but the socks have numbers on their side.
