Introduction

[edit]

Welcome to your classroom, AbsoluteZero459! This is where I will mentor you by discussion. First things first, tell me a little about yourself. What do you want edit around the encyclopedia these days? When are you active? Do you have specific areas you would like to learn about? Why do you want to be adopted and mentored? Why did you start editing at Wikipedia? Feel free to answer below. Take your time. Adoption is no rush. Thank you, – RyanCross (talk) 06:05, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What do you want edit around the encyclopedia these days? Do you have specific areas you would like to learn about? A. I am very interested in Physics and Geography! I love to just experiment in the lab after school with the chemistry teacher. Editing some of these articles will be very fun for me.
Why do you want to be adopted and mentored? A. I believe that knowledge is best passed down through example and teaching, and I really want to get involved on this encyclopedia!
Why did you start editing at Wikipedia? A. My older brother who moved off to college over the summer. He used to show me wiki formatting and all of the users he helped. I think his username was wikizoro or something. He always told me about a RyRy5 user who made cool user pages and helped out with adoption. When I couldn't find that user I kept looking until I clicked the old signature on his talkpage. Then BAM! redirected to your page! Ah, User:WikiZorro. :-) I remember him. Good 'ol chap. Anyway, that is very good to hear. And yes, my old name was "RyRy5". Alright. Let's see what I should teach you first. Let's begin.
Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. The main reason we have users here is so they help Wikipedia. The main part of Wikipedia is its articles. Us, Wikipedians, write articles. We contribute to them, we improve them, and we do much more. Of course, we get hit by vandalism often, but we manage to take care of most of that. There are administrators of Wikipedia. Administrators are no more important than any other editor around here. Administrators just have a few maintenance tools to delete pages, protect pages, block users, and undo these actions as well. They also have access to certain special pages. I'm an administrator on Simple English Wikipedia and Simple English Wikiquote.
Well, that's generally Wikipedia right there. There is a lot more than that, but I'm starting with the basics right now. Any questions? If you don't have questions, then we can move on to this: What do you want to learn first? – RyanCross (talk) 06:46, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
