Bio

I'm a Running Start student at Everett Community College in Everett, Washington. I'm an outdoor enthusiast, so in my free time I mountain bike, run, ski, hike, and explore the stunning Pacific Northwest. To me, there is nothing better than getting lost in the mountains. If I'm not able to be outdoors I will spend my time drawing or sketching, as I am also into art. In the future I plan to be an Industrial Designer.

I've never thought much about Wikipedia until my English class this quarter. However, if I were involved in Wikipedia in the long term, I would write about lesser known landmarks and towns with connections to wilderness places. It would be interesting to start a page for a place that might not have one yet. I could research and write about places like Monte Cristo in Glacier Peak Wilderness or Black Warrior Mine in North Cascades National Park.

Article Evaluation

I spend lots of time hiking in the mountains so that's the type of article I researched. Three Fingers is a mountain I've climbed before and I want there to be accurate information available on the internet for anybody who might need it. One of the first places people go when researching is Wikipedia. I visited the Three Fingers (Washington) page on Wikipedia and found three things worth commenting on: the number and type of references, general grammatical improvements, and the minuscule amount of information.

References

There were six references on the Wikipedia page. Two of the references led you to basic geographical information, two were from local papers, one is a government website, and the last one is an organization. Even if the page on this subject is small, it could use more sources then six. Also, all of these references were added to the page in 2016 when the page was created. It would be a good idea to update and expand the number of references.

Formatting and Grammer

This page could be improved by using better formatting and grammar. The bulk of the article was in one paragraph even though there was varying types of information that could have there own paragraphs. Also, the title uses parentheses around Washington to verify what article it is. If the title were to say “Three Fingers Mountain”, it would work remarkably easier to get to then “Three Fingers (Washington)” which is what it's labeled right now. It also uses the word supposedly when referring to when the top of the mountain was dynamited even though the references say it actually happen.

Small amount of info

This article is small enough that it has been labeled by Wikipedia as a stub, so adding to this article would make a huge improvement. We know nothing about the mountaineers, Harry Bedal or Harold Engles, that the article mentions. The article could elaborate on the trail and its past and current conditions. I know that the trailhead used to be seven miles away from the top until a washout added another 8 miles of travel to the trip. Another thing I would like to see added is a section about the climate and the many glaciers that exist on the mountain.

summary

This page does a good job providing basic information, but the citations could be better and more up to date. There is a couple grammar and technical problems that could be corrected. There also could be much more data added to the article. If the page fixed these few items then it could better convey the information needed by people researching this subject.
