During the addition of an unsymmetrical reagent type HX to an unsymmetrical alkene,the negative part (X) of the reagent goes to that carbon atom of the double bond which carries smaller number of hydrogen atoms, whereas the positive part (H) of the reagent gets attached to that carbon atom of the double bond which contain larger number of hydrogen atoms.
