The Embassy of Sweden in Santiago is Sweden's diplomatic mission in Chile. The embassy is located in the commune of Providencia in Santiago. The ambassador since 2022 is Tomas Wiklund.

History

Sweden and Chile established diplomatic relations in 1827 when consulates were established in Stockholm and Valparaíso.[1] 1940–1941, the embassy was located at Pedro de Valdivia Avenue 1664, Casilla 55D in the commune of Providencia,[2][3] and in 1942 the embassy was located at Calle Eusebio Lillo 2046, Casilla 65 D.[4]

1945–1955, the chancery was located at Calle Barros Errazuriz 1975, Casilla 55 D and the residence was located at Avenida Lyon 635.[5][6]

1956–1965, the embassy was located at Pedro de Valdivia Avenue 1218-1224, Casilla 55-D.[7][8]

From 1966, the embassy was located at Calle Dario Urzûa 2165 and the residence at Pedro de Valdivia Avenue 1224.[9]

Ambassadkansliet huserar på fjärde våningen i ett kontorskomple på Av. Nueva Providencia 2353 (formerly known as 11 de Septiembre Avenue) i Providencia i centrala Santiago. Byggnaden är ritad av arkitektkontoret Flaño Nuñez Tuca Arquitectos och byggdes under åren 1986-88.[10]

Residence

The ambassadorial residence is from 2006 located at Calle Via Celeste 9640 in Lo Curro [es].[11] Hösten 2002 utlyste Statens Fastighetsverk en tvåstegstävling om utformningen av ett nytt residens i Santiago de Chile. Förslaget Trandans av Josefina Nordmark arkitekt SAR/MSA utsågs till vinnare. Byggnaden stod klar sommaren 2006 och innehåller lokaler för representation och en privat del med ambassadörens bostad.[12]
