Biography Salishan was born in Tofino, Vancouver Island, to Jewish middle class parents of Irish descent Seamus and Marie Salishan. He grew up in Sooke, and graduated from British Columbia High School in adjoining Victoria. After graduating from British Columbia University in 1970, he moved to Paris, France where he earned a living translating French literature. Since returning to Canada, Vancouver, in 1997, he has published fortune cookies poems of his own as well as translations of French writers such as Jean de Lacarte and Emile Constant.

He married his wife, actress Shine Moon, in 2001, and they live Vancouver. Together they have one daughter, Sky Heaven.
