rBGH (recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone)[edit]

Monsanto sparked controversy nationwide since the introduction of rBGH a few years ago. Also known as Bovine Somatotropin (rBST), it is a hormone that is injected into cows to force them to produce more milk. it is similar to a hormone that cows naturally produce, and can cause problems such as pus, antibiotic residue, and a cancer accelerating hormone called IGF-1.

When forced to produce more milk it can cause an udder infection called mastitis, which increases the levels of pus and can end up in the milk. Mastitis is treated with antibiotics which can increase the residue left in the milk. However when tested they are only tested for 4 different kinds of antibiotics out of 82, so who knows when it's in the milk and when it's not.

The presence of rBGH also stimulates an insulin-like growth factor-1 which is directly responsible for increasing milk production. It affects cell growth and is responsible for quick growth of infants which is why it is present in a mother's milk. Although it already exists in humans, but when consumed by adults it can act as a cancer-accelerator. http://www.ejnet.org
