I am a linguist active in language documentation, linguistic typology, and also research data management and language technology.

After obtaining a Magister Artium (1997, Freie Universität Berlin), I started studying the Aweti language (Tupi, in the Upper Xingu, Central Brazil) with a DAAD grant.

From 2001 to 2005 I was the principal researcher in a DOBES (Documentation of Endangered Languages, Volkswagenstiftung) project on Aweti, building a large digital corpus on Awetí.

In 2002 I obtained my Dr.Phil.-degree at the Freie Universität Berlin, with a thesis about Lexicography. From 2008 to 2011 I held a Dilthey-Fellowship about digital grammars at the Institute for Comparative Linguistics at the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt, where I also obtained my German degree of "Habilitation" in 2012, and where I am affiliated as Privatdozent.

From November 2011 on, I have worked as Scientific Coordinator of The Language Archive (TLA) at the MPI-PL. From January 2013 until September 2014 I was leading this group together with Daan Broeder. Now I am working for the European Research Data Infrastructure CLARIN ERIC, and at the MPI I continued responsible for the German sister project CLARIN-D.
