Art Work and Curation[edit]

In 2018, Nawar created art installation "Collective Bread Diaries: A Taste of Protest" at which people from all over the world are granted the opportunity to draw and share their personal visual representations of bread as a symbol of one’s peculiar voice and political statement 100+ black vector drawings of bread were collected via Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk), created by participants from different areas in Europe, Asia, and Africa The results are exceptionally reproduced drawings by a machine, with no apparent threads to culture, tradition, or history, emphasizng the conscious perception of one’s distinct identity.[5]

Impact[edit]

In 2016, Haytham Consulted and supervised Khotout West El Balad A project that captures fonts from different eras in Downtown Cairo, recreates them in a contemporary setting, and makes them available for use by today’s artists, businesses and retailers. The initiative shows various uses of the fonts and how they are integrated into the daily lives of the societies they addressed. The Project since then has won several local and international awards (refer to rewards section).

In the same year Haytham Nawar also Founded a biannual [6] A Symposium of Electronic and New Media arts in Cairo, Egypt. The program included activities, exhibitions, talks, workshops and screenings by local, regional, and international artists as well as academics, and technology experts. The event served as an active learning environment where students, artists, and an entire audience came together to explore and understand the link between technology and art.

Currently(2019), IMPAKT and Cairotronica are together setting up an exchange platform with the aim of building an interdisciplinary community in the Netherlands and Egypt that integrates new technologies with the art and design practice. Within the programme, important discussions will be held about the effects of the current data-driven society on our world. Under the theme of “We Are Data” we aim to connect researchers, technology experts, engineers and academics with artistic makers and designers to generate more attention for the question of 'why' we use new technologies, instead of the more traditional and technical 'how' approach.[7]
