Namib Desert The Namib Desert is a desert in Namibia and southwest Angola that forms part of the Namib Naukluft National Park,the largest game reserve in Africa. The name Namib originated from the Nama language wich means"vast place". It is considered to be the oldest desert in the world. The Namib desert is across the habour towns such as Luderitz,Walvis Bay,Swakopmund and others. It stretches from Usiab River(north)to the town of Luderitz(south)and from the Atlantic Ocean(west)to the Namib Escarpment(east). Is is a very hot and dry part of Namibia. The Namib desert is an important location for the mining of tungsten,salt and diamonds. It annually receiving a little amount of rainfall. Morning fogs coming from the ocean and pushing inwards into the desert are a regular phenomenon along the coast. Most of the plants and animals relies on these fogs as the main source of water. The Namib desert comprises small animals such as arthropods and big animals such as antelopes,gazzeles,ostriches and even desert elephants. The desert is also a home to meerkats and several species of lizards[1]
