Shawn H. Meyer (born 12 August 1993), better known as Shawn Rizzoli, is an American singer, songwriter, musician, writer, editor, critic, and currently a student. He does not own any official albums or songs currently. However, Rizzoli made his writing debut in mid-2007 with a flash-story, Haruhi's Random Dream and Story. Several weeks after his debut, the flash-story gained attention among his friends and was encouraged by his best friend, Chu Minamoto. She would be his collaborator in late-2007. His editing job began when he started reviewing some of his close friends' works. His criticisms are known to be extremely sharp and fulminating.

Beside an active creative writer and poet, Rizzoli is active in songwriting and music. He had been known for being a President of the local Chinese Orchestra for a brief period of a year. He was succeeded by his close friend, Soon Hin. Rizzoli had won a mini-competition in school, produced by teachers to showcase some of the talents of music. He won unanimously in 1st place and received a Gold Award.

Rizzoli is best well-known for his fervent style, flair for writing, vocal range, unique style of songwriting, power, melismatic style and his diva-like character.

Life

Early life

Rizzoli was born in Singapore. He is the only child to his parents. Meyer's parents divorced when he was only 2. After his parent's divorce, he spent most of his childhood with his grandmother and mild contact with his father and little contact with his mother.

He spends most of his time alone and occupies himself with music most of the time. Writing had been part of his life too.

Meyer is currently studying at Christ Church Secondary School, Singapore.

Early-2006: Chinese music prodigy

Meyer was extremely active in his participation of the local Chinese Orchestra during 2006. As a freshmen, he decided to devote a considerable amount of time into chinese music rather than studies. He was best interested and enthralled by the school's orientation for various CCAs.

During mid-2006, the CO organized an annual camp. During the 3-days camp, members are told to perform a solo or group song choice on the second night. Hewer performed a solo piece and reciprocated with good praises.

Meyer was awarded 1st for that performance, the first in the school's Chinese Orchestra history for having a 13-year-old to win a Gold Award.

Late-2006 to mid-2007: Early success

Closing toward the of 2006, Meyer took profound interest in reading and writing. He had since bought 2 books every week, in his favourite bookstore, Kinokuniya Bookstore, although this figure ultimately declined towards 2008. Through these extensive reading and analysing, Meyer had developed an extreme sense for observance and a mild-rich vocabulary. However at this point of time, he did not show any evident knowledge of rich vocabulary to anyone.

In December 2006, Meyer had decided to indulge into creative writing. He had since been writing drafts and researching on all styles of writing. Meyer had consulted his close-friend and artist/writer, Chu Minamoto, regarding the writing of a supposed novel in early or mid-2007. Since then both had been actively active in discussion of story progression and plot development.

At first, Meyer wanted a collaboration between him and Minamoto on his debut. However, as style of plot development between both differs, Meyer dropped the idea in the end and worked solo. During this period of time he had also consulted another close-friend, Kuro Nightroad.

One week after active discussion between his close-friends, Meyer debutted his writing talent with a sensational story named Haruhi's Random Dream and Story. Meyer had no known inspiration for this story, as he said "It's pretty amazing. When I sat down in front of my computer, I thought about this insane plot pertaining to the abonormality of beings living on Earth. As I write, the story evolved itself. Certainly, that was when I knew my stories aren't non-matter; they respond and react in accordance." The novel-comic had since then read over 50 times by his close friends and was called "marvelous" by Nightroad.

Only 48 hours after his debut, Meyer wrote a sequel to the title succeeding it. However, for this sequel, it was divided into 3 collective parts, so as to create the supposed "cruel cliffhanger", according to Meyer . The first part was released upon finishing. Again, the succeeded novella managed to clinched attention and likeness among his friends and some teachers. However, for the sequel, Meyer changed the title to Haruhi's Story and Adventure.

As Meyer's friends continuously pressed against him for the last two parts to be released, he had written the 2nd part in merely two short days, and another two days for the final part to be released. The sheer amount of time taken for the ending was stunning. However the ending did not garner as good reviews as the previous part. The ending was considered by some of his friends as "schmaltzy" and "odd". Collectively, the sequel was read over and over again by his friends for an approximately 30 times.

It should be noted that both novellas (Haruhi's Random Dream & Haruhi's Story and Adventure Pt. One, Two and Three) were completed within eight days.

Mid-2007 (June): Hiatus

After the sequel of Haruhi's Random Dream, Meyer decided to go sabbatical and concentrated on his studies instead. From the results slip, progressing from June to September, his grades dropped by an estimate figure of 1.4 grades. During this period no one had asked about a supposed succeed of the sequel. It had been rumored that Meyer had stopped writing creatively, and that it was because of a heavy writer's block. Hewer made no rebuke or rebuttal towards this hear-say.

Late-2007: New image, personal struggles, and return to Prominence

July — New image

In July 2007, Meyer diverted his attention to animation, especially Japanese anime. As Minamoto is actively involved in Japanese anime even before he knew her, Meyer turned to Minamoto in idea of an animation project. Minamoto took great interest into the animation project and gave a green light about it.

Meyer then gathered a group of well-known artists in order for the project to be materialized. Using the mild power of Minamoto, he managed to cajole artists Kei and Kuro Nightroad into the supposed project. Meyer then took complete control of the situation and assigned different roles in the project, Meyer being the producer, writer, director, composer, and music director.

Meyer commented: "It was something so stunning and overwhelming that you find it hard to grasp it. I wanted a novelty, partly because of my writing hiatus and struggles I'd had. This, I say, would be a revolutionary experience."

August — Fiasco

As successful as the project went, Meyer dropped the proposal and took back the project. Due to artists professional struggles and Meyer's own creative block during the writing, the project dropped and four of them (Meyer, Minamoto, Nightroad, Kei) set-up a manga publishing. The aim of the manga house was to publish a manga story every month, on a regular basis. The idea was eventually dropped after two weeks of preparation as research had shown that the popularity of manga had declined over the course of 2007 in the school.

"It's truly an utter fiasco. I had the pinnacle of my writing career in early-2007; I expected and worked for it to be the same for this project. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, this happenstance is astoundingly shocking by the failure of such well-planned itinerary. It taught me a lot, really. I'd learned that even though things do go your way, sometimes they evolve; evolution, in this sense, isn't always good."

September — Personal struggles

Towards September, Meyer's social circle soured when he became extremely dominant over his friends. This was partly due to the professional failures (creative block, animation project fiasco). His temper and character was the dominant reason for an outcry and quarrel between his friends. His best friends, Jen, Taufiq (Kei) and Vanessa turned against him while he turned towards his other best friends, Peishi and Xinhui for moral support. It was stated that this was the worst period of Meyer's life.

It was until two weeks of struggle the problem was resolved when Meyer started establishing his relationship back with Vanessa and Jen. The attempt was successful and since then they have been the best of friends.

October — Return to Prominence

In early October, Meyer started writing again. With the comeback novel, named Haruhi's Comeback: #3, he managed to garner the identical amount of read-times from his debut (50 times). The novel was described as "...an enthralling comeback for a sufferer of creative block (...) The nitty-gritty details weren't too shabby, either!" Meyer commented: "You know what, it was all so sudden. All of these seemed so surreal and stunning; I'd never thought this would be happening to me!"

Two weeks after his comeback, Meyer wrote emotionally and introspectively on the World War One, writing a narrative after he had read about the WWI. It was said that Meyer had problems naming the short story, but it was rebuked by Hewer, saying: "The story was something I'd always wanted to attempt. With school keeping all of us busy, writing about WWI wasn't the craziest idea during then. The title was something that I couldn't even imagine how simple was it to even contrive." The Melancholic Flowers of War garnered more read-times than any of his works, with a smashing read-times of 60 times.

In late-October, Meyer had been consulting on Minamoto, his long-time collaborator regarding an upcoming novella of his. It was released as The Einese Cycle. However 3 days after the news had been made, he changed the title to The Nesesis Circle, then ultimately dropping the whole proposal of writing the novella itself. Meyer then started writing another short story, naming it The Haunt of Spirits. The project was also eventually dropped.

Early-2008 — present

Meyer had since concentrated on his studies and English music shortly after the debut of The Melancholic Flowers of War. As of 2008, he had stopped temporarily all forms of creative writing until further notice. Since then, Meyer had been writing songs extensively, collaborating with his friend, Pearlyn. However Meyer had canceled the collaboration between both, describing the writing process with Pearlyn was "superficial". He intends to collaborate on a long-term basis with his close friend, Jen.

Gearing to meet the classes' standards, Meyer had continued into a near-constant hiatus in his creative works (which included literature and music). During the whole of mid-2008, which spanned from April to September, Meyer had worked to keep up with his own standards in topics like Physics and the English Language. However, his expectations were not thoroughly met when the scores were released in mid-October. Meyer had expressed his grave concern regarding his own ability in his personal blog.

While studying exceptionally diligently during the midst of 2008, Meyer had, several times, called up various figures like Jen and Pearlyn for a singing session. It was in March that Meyer had expressed his interest in such an activity (partly ignited by his favorite reality show, American Idol) and it was only in May that both had agreed on such an event.

Late-2008 — November through December

On 11 October, 2008, Meyer released the first chapter of his latest fiction work into the Internet through the sharing-website, Deviantart. It was titled Daybreak of The Swan (Meyer had emphasized on the capitalization of 't' in "The"), and was said to be inspired profoundly by Twilight, a vampire-novel by Stephenie Meyer. In the first chapter, many of his friends — whom included Chu and Kuro — had expressed that it resembled greatly to Twilight's opening chapters. In response, he had inserted that the next chapter would be more "interesting" to read. (Meyer decided to upload chapters by chapters; this allowed him to work on the body and the end on an unconstrained routine.)

A week later, after Nightroad Chu's constant "bugging" for the remaining chapters to be released, Meyer responded by releasing the second chapter into DA. While the first chapter was widely-panned, the second chapter received better criticisms because of the intriguing Healer-Seeker concept, whose titles Meyer had taken from Stephenie Meyer's The Host. Both versions share no resemblances; Meyer merely took the terms to put it into his own concept and original idea.

Six days after the release of Chapter Two, Chapter Three was released. On contrary to Chapter Two's well-received criticisms, Chapter Three centers around a mundane routine that has little interesting moments. While a new character was added, the plot is draggy and largely redundant, although not as widely-panned as Chapter One. Meyer commented that Chapter Three was the last chapter he released. He had expressed the thought of working and concentrating on another project instead, a chick lit that is partly autobiographical.

In DOTS (Daybreak of The Swan), the protagonist and heroine, named Elizabeth Swan, resembled a lot to Twilight series' Isabella Swan by the fact that both shares the last name of "Swan". Moreover, the story was set as a linguistically-talented teenage moving from Los Angeles to Forks, which greatly resembled Twilight series' setting as well.

The fact that the alarming resemblances were so strong that Meyer had felt troubled and asked for a second opinion, which he turned to Nightroad. Nightroad had commented that the resemblances were very tricky and might possibly be a case of sub-conscious plagiarism.

In response, Meyer had said that in a full version of DOTS, which is slated for release in late-2009 or early-2010, the first three chapters would be completely edited and renewed.

Early-2009: Hiatus

According to latest reports (as of June 2009), Meyer had expressed profound enthrallment towards continuing his literature. Although he had stipulate that the novel he had worked on last year would be released in 2010, there is a huge proclivity that he might begin writing earlier than planned and release the novel earlier than expected.

Reports have also seen that Meyer had begun writing music during late-May. Thus far, reports have shown that he had written at least two songs based entirely on experiences.

Mid-2009: Suppression

In June 2009, Meyer had reportedly started working on his debut collection of ballads, which is as yet untitled. Although Meyer had assured that the collection is "nothing but a pool of personal poems", many are convinced that the songs that he had written would most likely be produced after all. Claiming himself as "musically untalented", Meyer announced through a voice clip on 3 July 2009 that he may produce the songs as some arpeggios began hitting him as early as May.

Thus far, Meyer had managed to have written seven to eight songs that he intends to further concentrate on after the GCE 'O' Level Examinations, which would be thoroughly finished during mid-November. Unsure whether should he shelf the songs aside for the time being to focus on studies, Meyer merely proclaims that he "never stop[s] writing".

Meyer has recently been heard sampling with various hooks and had created a loop of summer beats for his production of the songs he had written. A friend of his, Duane, had expressed enthusiasm regarding the songs Meyer writes, and had requested Meyer to write a "summer smash hit" for him. Meyer has not start working on it so far.

Between 1 July to 3 July, Meyer reportedly had a mild mental and physical breakdown. He assured masses through a voice clip on 3 July that he was "alright and [was] going to live on."

Artistry

Writing

Meyer's fictions have heavy fantasy elements in it that surrounds war and issues with the environment. Love was an occasional theme, as it was only featured in the comeback of Meyer's. (See Haruhi's Comeback: #3) Fantasy was a main issue in Daybreak of The Swan. Meyer often tries to center his characters and plot around these themes in order to apprise readers. Some of his short stories (which some were obscured) have dystopian element.

Meyer cited Stephenie Meyer, George Orwell, Harper Lee, Neil Gaiman, Doris Lessing, Isabel Allende, Ray Bradbury, and Charles Dickens as literary influences.

Voice

Meyer is said to cover at least 3 octaves. He often sings with melismatic style and power, frequently sings with emotions. However, even with fervent emotions, his voice and singing style had always been under scrutiny. Some critics commented that Meyer's voice on his own is "expressive rather than impressive".

Meyer cited Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, Beyoncé, and David Archuleta as musical influences, with Carey as "the most influential of them all". His all-time favorite artists are Mariah Carey and David Archuleta.
