Roshan Bharti is an upcoming, promising ghazal singer of India belongs to the famous 'Senia' gharana. He grew up in a world where music reigned supreme, beginning from the time of his birth when his grandfather the late Ustad Jamal Khan sang Raga Darbari to him.

Roshan's parents encouraged him to sing and from the age of five, his father Shri Yasmin Bharti began to train him in classical music and taught him the intricacies of various ragas. Rigorous practice imbibed in him a sense of discipline and from, which is evident in his singing style.

At the age of none, Roshan made his first national appearance. The occasion was the All Indian Music competition at Kamani Auditorium organized by the Delhi-based music group Sangeetayan. Needless to say, Roshan came first in this meet and the audience was stunned at the vocal range of this child prodigy.

Roshan's interest in music led him to do his Master's Degree in Music. He won the Gold Medal by topping the University of Rajasthan with distinction. He is also an accomplished A Grade AIR artist and his melodious voice can be regularly heard over the airwaves.

Roshan also has to his credit, a doctoral research work (thesis) on 'Begum Akhtar's Life and Works', from university of Rajasthan.

The Early Years:

Life was never the same for his father Yasmin Bharti, a gifted artist himself. Roshan was his dream. He started shaping the clay early. He was ‘the guru’-and Roshan ‘the Shishya’ was put to the rigours of disciplined training in Indian Classical Music at the tender age of five. Gifted with a mellifluous voice, he was taught the intricacies of various ragas and made to practice for long hours.

The Child Prodigy:

The fruits of this hard work were not late to appear. In the year 1977 an overflowing Kamani Auditorium was held spell bound by the flawless presentation of ghazal by a child of nine. The vocal range of his song was amazing. The occasion was All India Music Competition organized by Delhi based music group Sangeetayan and the child artist was Roshan Bharti. He won the trophy for the year - and for many years to come. There was no looking back for him as this child prodigy continued to mesmerize and move the hearts of people as he matured both into a young man and a promising name in the realms of music.

Laurels Won:

Between the ages of 9 to 23, Roshan won the title of best singer of thirteen times at various National Level Competitions. Five times he won the Inter College Music Competitions and four times the State level Music Contest of Rajasthan. Sharing the Stage with the Maestros:

During his early twenties, Roshan earned the singular honour of performing with Ghazal Kings of all times. With Ustad Mehndi Hasan, who is related to him, Roshan sang at a concert in Delhi. Gulam Ali, the world famous artist from Pakistan, listened to Roshan without batting an eyelid till the early birds twittered, at Bomaby. Later Roshan shared the stage with the Great Master, at his home city, Kota. Jagjit singh, who was trained for twelve years under Ustad Jamal Khan (Roshan’s grandfather), was proud to introduce Roshan as his Ustadji’s grand child at Sapru House, Deldhi, where they sang together. Once again the young artist won the hearts and applause of people. All the three great men showered him with praise and blessings.

His Education:

A gold medalist in post graduation from the University of Rajasthan. Roshan wrote his doctoral thesis on ‘Begum Akhtar’s life and works.’ Association with Doordarshan and AIR:

Roshan is a TOP garde AIR artist and is associated with AIR Jaipur. He regularly records for the Radio and sings in the concerts. His melodious voice accompanied by his cheerful, charming visual presentation can be seen in Doordarshan telecasts quit often. He sings from Delhi, Bombay, Lucknow, Jallandhar, Patna, Bhopal and Madras Doordarshan Kendras.

Playback:

Roshan has sung for TV serial ‘Geet Govind’ produced by a reputed daily of Rajasthan ‘Rajasthan Patrika T.V.’, ‘Faasle’ is the name of the Tele film, produced for DD1, for which he did the playback. His Music ‘Yatras’:

Roshan keeps filling the air of many a cities throughout the country with his magical voice. His solo performances have taken him to a host of places.

The World Applauds:

Sangeet Natak Academy Award : His latest achievement is the recognition given to him by his home state Rajasthan. His been awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award for Youth in the field of light music for the year 2002. Abhinav Kala Samman : On 3rd Aug, this year he received the prestigious ‘Abhinav Kala Samman’ by the Chief Secretary of Madhay Pradesh at historical city of Bhopal, where he mesmerized the audience with his dazzling performance. Most recently he had been felicitated by the district administration of his city Kota for his achievements.
