In 1994 or 1995, our high school astronomy class teacher was out for the day, and provided a sheet of questions for us to answer based on our textbook. One of the questions was something like, "Life on Earth is carbon-based, but silicon has also been identified as a potential element for the basis of life-forms. Why do scientists think it is unlikely we will ever encounter silicon-based life-forms?" I was not able to find an answer to this in the textbook, and being a fan of UHF, I naturally answered: "Because we have a lot of silicon on Earth, but we don't SEE no stinking silicon badgers!!"

More to come.
