Draft: Walter T. Bailey
[edit]Edit: Walter T. Bailey intro paragraph
[edit]> Walter T. Bailey became the second African American that graduated from the University of Illinois. [1]
I plan to insert this fact before the last sentence in this section. Maybe it should be included in the "Early life and Education" section?
Edit: New Header Titled Biography
[edit]>On October 15th 1905 Walter T. Bailey married Josephine L. McCurdy. In the same year, Josephine gave birth to their first born, Edith Hazel. Seven years later they gave birth to their second child, Edith Hazel in 1913.[2]
I plan to put this section before the "Early life and education", and add it to the table of contents.
"Edit for the section titled "Architecture career"
[edit]> The Pythian Bath House and Sanitarium was constructed solely for the use of African Americans.Cite error: A <ref>
tag is missing the closing </ref>
(see the help page).
I plan to add this to second paragraph as the last sentence.
> The construction of National Pythian Temple cost $850,000. [3]
I plan to add this in the third paragraph after the second sentence.
> The National Pythian Temple "was planned to be the headquarters of the Knights of Pythias and to house the lodge’s combined national offices, numerous meeting halls, and rent-producing stores and offices." [2]
I plan to add this to the third paragraph after the third sentence.
> The First Church of Deliverance designed in Art Moderne style, was inspired by Reverend Clarence Cobbs. The art Moderne style is predominately composed of strong horizontals with large glass panel windows. The building served as both a church and a radio station for Reverend Clarance Cobbs to broadcast sermons.[2]
I plan to add this to the end of the forth paragraph.
> The First Church of Deliverance was originally a hat factory that Walter T. Bailey redesigned to fit the needs of Reverend Cobbs.[4]
> The Knights of Pythias Temple was demolished in 1980. [5]
I plan to add this as the last sentence of the third paragraph.
> Walter T. Bailey designed terra- cotta griffins in the frieze of the Knights of Pythias Temple. [5]
I plan to add this to the third paragraph after the third sentence and after the previous edit I will have added at this time.
There is a picture of the griffins but I am unsure how to incorporate it due to copyright issues.
Walter T. Bailey implemented the style of Art Moderne by adding lines of green terra-cotta blocks on the facade of the Church of Deliverance. [6]
Edit for the section titled "Selected Works"
[edit]> 1924- 1980 The Knights of Pythias Temple [5] (This is a repeated fact from the previous section, the bolded date is the one that I intend to add.)
