In the 1960's, our girl scout troop went door-to-door for ALSAC which we were told was Danny Thomas' charity. All of our flyers said that A.L.S.A.C. stood for AID FOR LEUKEMIA STRICKEN AMERICAN CHILDREN. Imagine my surprise, when I was telling someone about this and I called up ALSAC in Wikipedia and it said that it stands for Lebanese-Syrian, not leukemia-stricken. Maybe at the time Danny Thomas was trying to raise money for his charity and no one really knew he was Lebanese, he didn't think people would contribute.
