- Col Tomassetti underscored the broad nature of the mission assigned to VMFAT-501. “We’ve asked these Marines to move into a new, empty building, populate that building with everything needed to be a working facility, start with a blank sheet of paper and write the book on how to operate the F-35B from the pilot’s perspective, from the maintenance perspective, from the admin perspective. We didn’t give them a template or model. ... We said, ‘You are hand-picked; go figure it out.’ ”[1]
