Smoon Association Football Club ('The Smoonarmy') are an English football club based in Stockport, Cheshire. They currently play in Lucozade Powerleague Stockport, Division 5.
History[edit]
Formed in January 2011, Smoon played their first game one week later, however the first game proved to be their largest ever defeat, with a 32-0 Loss against Malaga 23s, the clubs first win came in the very next game, courtesy of a 12-1 win against Roberts Jackson, a club who would go on to become Smoon's fierce rival over the course of the next few seasons.
The rest of the season, Smoon struggled, picking up no more wins, even losing to Roberts Jackson, a loss that reflected very poorly on the club who ended up finishing 6th, bottom of Division 6, however the following season brought slightly more success for the club, achieving a double over Roberts Jackson and getting a surprise 5-4 win over Norfolk 'N' Chance, who would go on to claim to Division 6 title, Smoon eventually finished the season season in 5th place, a slight improvement on the following season, former player, Kyle Worthington, formed a breakaway club, Assou Army, ironically, their first game was against Smoon, which ended 7-7, with Mark Clowes hammering home a last second equaliser.
The third season, despite being one of the best supported teams in the league, Smoon struggled on the pitch again, whilst giving some good performances, they couldn't pick up a win, despite another double over Roberts Jackson they collected only 1 more point, Smoon again finished in the bottom two of the division.
At the start of the fourth season, many expected Smoon to struggle once again, however the club started the new season in fantastic form beating Locomotive Railway, 19-0 on the opening game of the season, the record win for the club, this season saw a complete revival on the pitch, with double wins over Roberts Jackson, Man Chest Hair United, Locomotiv Railway and a first ever win against Tom Bostock, the club finished 4th.
The fifth season saw Smoon continue their fantastic form the following season, gaining the double over Roberts Jackson, Tom Bostock, Man Chest Hair United and won the return game against Assou Army, having been outplayed in the first game against them, finishing in 3rd place and only missing out on promotion by 4 points.
The sixth season, saw Smoon again collect doubles over Tom Bostock, Man Chest Hair United and for the first time Assou Army, a strong end of season run saw Smoon in with a chance of promotion on the final day of the season, despite victory against Man Chest Hair United, results elsewhere ensured that they would miss out on the top 2 again, only by 1 point this time.
There was controversy in the pre-season between season six and seven, as a league reshuffle saw Smoon elect to get promoted to Division 5, a decision that was unpopular with the players and then again to Division 4, however after 3 games, the club were reinstated into Division 5, which following the collapse of Division 6, was now the basement division, a strong start was ruined with an exodus of 3 players from the club, which saw an end of season drop in form, meaning Smoon finished in 4th place in Division 5, their higest ever league position to date.
Season eight was a bad one for the club, with only 1 win and 1 draw all season, Smoon were relegated to the re-formed Division 6, season 9 started in controversial fashion as Smoon players felt that they had won a game 8-7, however the referee gave in the official report as Smoon having lost 8-7, the next 2 games, saw losses for the club, however game 3 saw Smoon play without a recognised Goalkeeper, Smoon picked up their first win of the season with a 7-2 victory in game 4, they then achieved back to back wins for the first time in 3 seasons with a 5-4 success over Nameless Wanderers, the team they were controversially denied a win against on the opening game of the season.
Ground[edit]
Smoon AFC, currently use any of the ten pitches at Powerleague Stockport, the most commonly used pitches a pitches 1,2 and 3, considered the 'outdoor' pitches, however due to several high profiled disputes with a referee, the club prefer to not use Pitch 3, where possible.

Cup Competition[edit]
The club competed in the 2011/12 'County Cup' a tournament run out of Powerleague Stockport, sponsored by Stockport County, the club were placed in a tough group, winning the first game 2-1, a controversial loss in the second game, to a Stockport County representative team, a 5-2 loss in the 3rd game, saw the team out of the cup but they did manage to win their final game 2-0, goalkeeper, Bobby Hassard was Smoon's player of the tournament, so impressive were his performances that he was taken on loan by one of the teams that had made the Quarter Finals, for both their Quarter Final and Semi Final ties.
Fundraising[edit]
Smoon have started a fundraising initiative, aimed at helping players keep their heads in the game, everytime a player acts out of line within the club, they are to pay a fine that will be re-invested within the club.
