Penrod and Sam is the second in a series of collections of comic sketches by Booth Tarkington about the adventures of Penrod Schofield, an 11-year-old middle-class boy in a small city in the pre-World War I Midwestern United States. The other two books in the series are Penrod (1914) and Penrod Jashber (1929). The three books were published together in one volume, Penrod: His Complete Story, in 1931.

Plot summary[edit]

Penrod and his friends form a secret society and discover the dangers of a loaded gun. Penrod adopts an abandoned horse and tries to conceal him from his parents, plays jungle hunter with a feral cat, plays a prank on the cook, and disrupts a children's party.
