I am a retired soil surveyor who worked for many years in the Soil Survey of England and Wales, which later became the Soil Survey and Land Research Centre, and is now the National Soil Resources institute. I worked on soil mapping projects in Yorkshire and, for a longer period, in Wales, and am a joint author of "Soils and their use in Wales" by C.C. Rudeforth et al.

My degree is in botany, and I maintain a strong interest in teaching and researching matters ecological as well as soils.

I take people out exploring the Welsh countryside, where we look at many aspects of the environment, including our rich heritage of archaeological monuments.

I have just started contributing to Wikipedia, having found some gaps in the coverage of soil related matters. I have an on-going project to write an approachable account of Welsh soils and landscapes.
