Early Life and Education
Sophie Colville was born on 28 June 1994 in Sutton Upon Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, to Sharon Lamb and Richard Muthra. At the age of two and a half, Sophie was adopted by Malini and Iain Colville, who raised her in a Christian household. Sophie also spent part of her early life in foster care before being adopted, and she feels grateful for the love and support she received from her foster family. Sophie has half-sisters and half-brothers, but she has not met any of them. She spends time with her adoptive family, including Rosie and Dean (her adoptive sister and brother), and her adoptive parents, Malini and Iain Colville, whenever she gets the chance.
Sophie began her education at Alfred Sutton Primary School in Reading, Berkshire, where she attended until the age of eight. Following a move to Bishop’s Stortford, she continued her studies at St. Michael’s Church of England School from Year 4 to Year 6. Sophie later attended Birchwood High School in Bishop’s Stortford from Year 7 to Year 11, where she completed her GCSEs. Sophie chose not to pursue a sixth form education but instead focused on her interest in animal care by enrolling at Writtle College in Ongar, Chelmsford, where she studied Animal Care from September 2010 to July 2011. This course included both theoretical and practical learning in animal management, animal studies, and care.
Career and Achievements
Work Experience
At the age of 18, Sophie began working at Bupa Care Home in Thorley, near Bishop’s Stortford, from November 2012 to January 2014, where she provided compassionate care to elderly and vulnerable residents. Sophie’s role involved assisting with daily living activities, ensuring the well-being of the residents, and offering emotional support to both residents and their families. This experience strengthened Sophie’s empathy, patience, and organisational skills, which she continues to apply in her personal and professional life.
Following her time at Bupa, Sophie expanded her community involvement by volunteering at several charity shops in Hertford Town, including the YMCA, British Heart Foundation, Isabel Hospice, Mind, and Mid Herts. She contributed to these organisations, providing support and assistance to both staff and customers. Sophie continues to engage with her community, although she is currently taking a break from volunteering.
In August 2016, Sophie became an active member of the Hertford St. Andrew’s Church, where she joined the church choir as a soprano. Over the years, Sophie has contributed significantly to the musical and community life of the church. Her involvement in the choir has not only allowed her to develop her musical abilities but also helped her forge meaningful connections within the community.
In 2021, Sophie worked at Martin’s News Agents in Ware, which has two locations, one on High Street and the other on Amwell End. Sophie was employed at Martin’s News Agents until February 2023, and her role included customer service, stock management, and administrative tasks. She developed strong communication and problem-solving skills, assisting customers with various queries and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the newsagents.
Recognition
Sophie is appreciated for her compassionate and patient nature, particularly in her relationship with Terry, where she has shown tremendous support. She is someone who values empathy, understanding, and deep connections with those close to her. Her sensitivity to her partner’s needs and her ability to create a loving and supportive environment are qualities that define her. Sophie’s contributions to her local community, particularly her volunteer work and active church involvement, have made her a respected and valued member of Hertford.
Personal Life
Sophie shares a special bond with her adoptive family, including her adoptive sister, Rosie, and adoptive brother, Dean. Sophie was adopted at the age of two and a half by Malini and Iain Colville, who raised her in a Christian household. Sophie’s deep connection with her adoptive parents has been a cornerstone of her upbringing, and she values the strong, faith-driven values they instilled in her.
Sophie’s relationship with her partner, Terry, began in May 2024, and over time, they have developed a strong bond based on trust, understanding, and care. Sophie shows unwavering patience, particularly in supporting Terry as he navigates his communication challenges.
Sophie has a love for animals and has had various pets throughout her life. She had a dog named Gromit, which she believes was the inspiration behind the character of Wallace and Gromit. Gromit was not her dog from the start, but Sophie lovingly cared for him when the previous owner could no longer look after him. Sophie gave him the love he needed until he passed away. In addition to Gromit, Sophie has had two rabbits, two ferrets (who had babies), and other cats before Tazz (spelled T-A-Z-Z). Sophie had to rehome the ferrets to someone who bred ferrets on a farm.
Sophie is also left-handed and enjoys a variety of hobbies. She loves singing, playing the keyboard, and dancing “crazily”. Sophie is known for her great sense of humour, her enthusiasm, and her bubbly personality. She brings positivity to those around her, though, like everyone, she can sometimes be a little grumpy if things don’t go her way. But it’s always in a funny way, so no one feels too awkward!
