Ronald G. Nesti
Ronald Gregory Nesti (born on December 28, 1944 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania) is the former Director of Civilian Personnel for U. S. Air Force Space Command.
Ron is a Vietnam Era Veteran. He served in the U. S. Air Force (1964-1968) as a Geodetic Surveyor in support of the Minuteman Missile systems in North Dakota. He was stationed at Grand Forks AFB, ND where he earned the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service as a Survey Team Chief.
After he completed his enlistment, Ron worked as a Retail Finance Manager in Indiana. He then worked as a Railroad Fireman and Signalman for the Erie-Lackawanna Railway Companytm in Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio.
When he got a chance to return to college in 1971, he worked as a Bank Courier for the Gallatin National Banktm in Uniontown, PA. He used the GI Bill to finish earning his BS in Education from California State College (now California University) in California, PA in 1973.
After a short stint as a Retail Store Management Trainee with S.S. Kresgetm company in Harrisburg, PA, Ron began his federal civil service career as an Education Specialist for Naval Recruiting District Washington. He authored the first ever Inter-Service Joint Operations Agreement governing the co-operative recruitment efforts of the Navy, Air Force, Marines, Army, and Coast Guard. The agreement covered recruitment in D.C., Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and parts of Pennsylvania and served as the prototype for recruitment under the "all volunteer" concept implemented after the end of the Vietnam War.
In 1974, Ron was competitively selected to appointment as a Presidential Management Intern (PMI). His initial assignment was to the Civilian Personnel Office of Eglin AFB, FL (1974-1977). He later served on the Command Staff of Air Force Systems Command at Andrews AFB, MD (1977-1983). From there he was appointed as Civilian Personnel Officer at Patrick AFB, FL (1983-1986). He ultimately served as Civilian Personnel Officer for Peterson AFB, CO. This final position also required him to serve as Director of Civilian Personnel for the newly formed Air Force Space Command, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and U. S. Space Command.
Upon retirement from the federal civil service in 1996, Ron took a position as Program/Project Manager of the Personnettm product line for Information Handling Servicestm in Englewood, CO. Ron took this federal personnel regulations and case docubase from CD-ROM to the Internet.
In 2000 Ron took on the Project Management responsibilities for WorldCom'stm internal Global Call Search system. This product enabled company officials to search and retrieve telephone records from around the world within minutes of their creation. It used a 4TB data storage array from Suntm and an Oracletm database. During this time, WorldComtm transitioned to MCItm and was ultimately acquired by Verizon Businesstm.
Ron fully retired in 2006 and lives in Colorado Springs, CO. He and his Wife Linda have three children and 3 Grandchildren.
