There is a nationwide search ongoing for George Zinkhan.[2] "He was a kind and funny man and a very dedicated father," said Janet Frick, a neighbor when Tanner lived in Winterville, "He was a smart person, too. He didn't always show his animated side right away, but he was a funny person."[3] “You could utterly and completely count on [Tom]. He was very smart and funny, and designed some of the best sets,” said Dina Canup, who knew Tanner via the Town & Gown. “I just went to the play the other day and told him how he’d outdone himself. He was just so full of life … and made you enjoy being around him,"said LaBau Bryan, another troope member.[1]

Early life[edit]

Tanner obtained his doctorate in economics and geography from University of Georgia.[1] He had earlier attended Clemson University. Tanner was employed as an Instructor at the Department of Marketing, Clemson University.[4] As the project co-ordinator for the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia, he developed the regional dynamics economic model which is use to model and analyze economic impacts nationwide. His work on economic impact analysis has been used by organizations such as the Center for Agriculture, the Center for Economic Development at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Regional Economic Models Inc.[5]

Theatre[edit]

Tanner was involved with the Town & Gown Players Inc. in Athens, Georgia.[2] On Saturday evening, Tanner was cast as Dr. Watson for the play "Sherlock Holmes, The Final Adventure", which has subsequently been canceled.[6] Tanner would offer technical skills alongside Ben Teague's carpentry skills to offer up stages sets which were well known in the area.[3][7]
