Evaluate the drafted changes[edit]

  1. First, what does the article do well? Is there anything from your review that impressed you? Any turn of phrase that described the subject in a clear way?
    1. This article did a great job of describing the symptoms and pathophysiology behind alpha-gal syndrome. It was particularly comprehensive in its discussion of the mechanism behind the development of alpha-gal syndrome, including the creation and reaction to certain antibody components.
  2. What changes would you suggest the author apply to the article? Why would those changes be an improvement?
    1. Some effort on improving the clarity of the symptoms, particularly how they occur in response to triggers, may be beneficial. While this is done well later in the article, the beginning of the article is lacking and therefore leads to some confusion early on.
    2. Additionally, I think some consolidation may help to simplify the explanation of the cause and mechanism behind the development of alpha-gal syndrome. It seems repetetitve, particularly having both the "cause" and "mechanism" subsections.
    3. Finally, in the treatment section, would epinephrine injections be something that could be used for these individuals? If so, this may be beneficial to mention.
  3. What's the most important thing the author could do to improve the article?
    1. Simplify the sections on the mechanisms behind alpha-gal syndrome development.
