In the story, "A White Heron" a hunter comes upon a young quit beautiful woman. The hunter is in search of a white heron that he figures the young woman may be able to help him find. He wants to find that heron so bad that he offers the young lady money. To this young lady's surprise she finds this man to be handsome and charming. When she goes out one night she witnesses the bird, and rushes home with excitement to tell the man what she has just saw. Ehen she gets there its almost like something takes over her, and suddenly doesn't want to tell the man that she even witnessed the bird. She puts it in a way that she "cant tell the heron's secret". The man leaves the house with much disappointment and regret. When it comes to symbolism in this story the heron represents nature and the hunter represents human companionship. The bird itself is in its natural habitat while the hunter is going out his way to just get as close to the bird as he can.
