Adilgerey Umakhanov

Early Life and Education

Adilgerey Umakhanov was born on April 19, 1952, in Kyrgyzstan during the deportation of Chechens by the Soviet government. His family hailed from Akhtash-Aukh in Dagestan. Umakhanov graduated from Adilotar School and later earned a degree in philology from Chechen-Ingush State University.

Career

Umakhanov began his career as a teacher in his home village located north to Khavasyurt, where he was highly respected by his students and colleagues. He was known for fostering a strong connection with his students, becoming both a teacher and a friend. His dedication to preserving the Chechen language and culture led him to join the Dagestan Republican Radio in the early 1980s. Umakhanov also contributed to the development of Chechen-language media in Dagestan and became a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR.

At Dagestan Republican Radio, Umakhanov played a pivotal role in the creation and growth of Chechen-language programming.
