Political positions

[edit]

Securing the Border

[edit]

Baugh is sympathetic to the tragedies that occur in and around the border region of America right now, and advocates for tightening America's borders and ensuring that drugs, sex trafficking and terrorists don't cross into America.[1][2]

Government transparency

[edit]

Baugh is a strong supporter of transparency in government,[3] and has publicly rebuked the congressional slush fund that is employed by the government to settle workplace disputes between government senior employers, including congressional office holders, and staff.

Foreign Aid

[edit]

Baugh is an advocate of reducing America's financial obligations by curtailing foreign aid, "...the Litmus test for providing military and/or financial aid to foreign countries is whether America is protecting its citizens and is that aid promoting our national security interest. Far too often, our representatives entangle the U.S. in foreign affairs and foreign wars with very thin connections to national security, costing American lives and billions of dollars".[2] Baugh has further commented, "... when it is clear that our national security is at risk ... the U.S. should provide assistance."[2]

Immigration

[edit]

Baugh has made his support for the traditional, legal channels of immigration well known.[4][2] Baugh advocates for reinforcing traditional channels of legal immigration within the United States, while strengthening border security policies, employer verification,[4] and existing government policies around the management and handling of illegal aliens within the nation.[4] Instead of employing a "one size fits all" solution such as mass deportations, he has advocated for a more nuanced[4] approach to handling the situation that takes into account the circumstances and conditions of the given immigrants standing and history. Relating to this matter, Baugh has stated, "A one-size solution for all immigrants is elusive because the circumstances range from an illegal border crossing last week to an illegal border crossing 20 years ago followed by 20 years of employment."

Balanced Budget

[edit]

Baugh is an advocate for responsible government spending[5], and believes the federal deficit needs to be balanced urgently. Additionally, he's an advocate for a constitutional amendment to require congress to balance the budget. Baugh has further articulated how deficit spending by the government increases inflation and believes that by managing the budget responsibly, the government will ensure the value of citizen's money.

Congressional stock trading

[edit]

Baugh vociferously opposes congressional stock trading, naming it an opportunity for corruption. Baugh has called for all members of Congress to forgo all stock trading,[6] calling it hypocrisy that insider trading is illegal for citizens, but not for government officials; "Insider trading is illegal for the American people and should be illegal for members of Congress".[1]
