Ronit Sarid (born in 1961) is a virology and cancer researcher, and currently a professor in Bar Ilan University in Israel.
Biography
[edit]Ronit Sarid was born in Tel Aviv. She studied in Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium. In 1981, she started pursuing her bachelors degree in Biology in Tel Aviv University, while studying teaching simultaneously. She completed her Doctorate with honors in Tel Aviv University Faculty of Medicine, in the department for Human Microbiology. Her doctorate Thesis, under the supervision of Prof. Arnona Gazit and Prof. Abraham Yaniv, dealt with the molecular and functional study of the Lymphoproliferative Disease (LPDV) Virus of Turkeys - a retrovirus known as a pathogen causing an acute lymphoproliferative disease in poultry.
For two years following her doctorate, Ronit Sarid studied Herpese viruses in the Department of Cell Research and Immunology in Tel Aviv University. During 1995-1998 she served as a post-doctoral researcher in Columbia University in New-York City, focusing in Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus [KSHV]. In 1998 she returned to Israel, and established her own research group in the Life Science Faculty in Bar Ilan University, where she currently serve as a researcher and professor.
Sarid's research lab focuses in KSHV, a cancer causing virus in humans, which causes Kaposi's sarcoma and Castleman disease. Her laboratory investigates various aspects related to the infection cycle and pathogenesis of KSHV, including the characterization of signal pathways related to the activity of the virus culture, the characterization of the role of viral gene products during the virus infection cycle for its various stages, and the identification and study of interactions between proteins encoded in KSHV and cellular proteins. Additionally, the laboratory studies the effects of different products on the ability of KSHV to infect and reproduce.

- 2011 - 2012 - Member of the discipline committee, Bar-Ilan university.
- 2014 - 2019 - Advisor to the Rector for the Advancement of Women in the Academy.
- 2019 - 2020 - Deputy Dean of the School of Advanced Studies, Bar-Ilan University.
- 2020 - today - Dean of the School of Advanced Studies, Bar-Ilan University.
Moreover, Sarid served as a member of various committees, including the Israeli Society for Microbiology (2005-2007), the committee for evaluation of research grants proposals of the Israeli Ministry of Science, the Association for Cancer Research in Israel and the United Kingdom, and chaired the committee for evaluating proposals for research grants for the Israeli Ministry of Health.
Sarid currently lives in Kiryat Ono in Israel, is married and has three children.
