Sir Sayyid Ali Almirghani was a sudanese noble of muhammedan descent. His ancestry originated in arabia where his great grandfather established a school of Islamic studies which later expanded to reach Egypt, Ethiopoia and Sudan. Although he was born in northern Sudan he spent much of his childhood in eastern Sudan following the death of his father at the age of 5. He was raised by his uncle in eastern sudan until his teen when he travelled to Egypt to continue his studies at Al-Azhar Islamic University, where he showed extraordinary talents that allowed him to gain the highest degree at the time - Al-Alamiya. He then travelled back to Sudan where he embarked on a major religious journey uniting the existing Sufi orders and reviving particularly the [Khatmiyya]] order of his great grandfather Sayyid Mohamed Osman Al-Mirghani Alkhatm. His personality allowed him to gain the respect of almost all the tribal and religious leaders in Sudan, although he was the youngest among them.
