BRAND 'KANGHYUK'

[edit]

He is running a brand named after himself. The begin of the brand was an exhibition of his university graduation works. In 2016, Kanghyuk Choi introduced the first collection and he applied airbags to clothes for the first time at that time. In February 2017, at the request of Kanghyuk, Sangrak Son joined the brand and they launched <Brand: KANGHYUK> together in earnest. <Brand: KANGHYUK> appeared in the London fashion industry by filming with Nick Knight, the god of photographers who is known as breaking down the boundaries of photography and graphics and create unconventional productions.

Kanghyuk's graduation works and products are introduced in D/ARK in Paris, Machine-A (a famous London editing shop), and H.Herno( a concept store in New York) and received great response from overseas.[1]

"KANGHYUK" is a brand that utilizes themes such as eco-friendly and sustainable fashion by focusing on unconventional material use and details such as airbags, barcodes, and stitching of fabric. Every season, the collection is shown like an art exhibition. He has been praised for their non-traditional use of materials in the fashion world.

It began to become famous overseas first as it was first distributed in overseas editing shops such as "LN-CC, MACHINE-A, DOVER STREET MARKET, GR8." In 2018, A$AP Rocky appeared in Kang Hyuk's outfit in the music video for "Tony Tone". After that time, it has gained popularity in Korea as Korean celebrities such as Big Bang's Top, BTS, Crush, and Sik-K began to wear it.[2]

WORKS

[edit]

The 2017 F/W collection featured inspiration from the cartoon Akira. The 2018 F/W collection focused on creating a crushing effect by garment-dying the fabric, and the 2019 F/W collection expresses the theme of spacesuits in a strong way.[3]

REEBOK X KANGHYUK Collaboration [4]

[edit]

In collaboration with Reebok Advent Concept Team, SRS Sol Fury is produced. The new “Sol Fury” created by Kanghyuk reflects his philosophy, including dismantling, reconstruction, and original upcycling. The various torn airbag materials were arranged irregularly and the fabric that seemed to be sewn by hand was used as the upper part of Fury, and Fury's shoe lace system also added a barcode trademark in zigzag form. All the pieces were followed by the brand's signature stitching, and each shoe was given a unique number to add speciality.

Umbro X KANGHYUK Collaboration[5]

[edit]

Umbro and Kang Hyuk's first collaboration collection "DIAMOND MARS FC" was created under the theme of vast space and unknown Mars, starting with the question, "What will the first Mars (MARS) soccer team look like?" The two brands expressed the football scene on Mars, where everything will be newly defined, through the fictional team DIAMOND MARS FC, which has a creative interpretation.

TOPTEN10 X KANGHYUK Collaboration[6]

[edit]

He collaborated with SPA brand 'TOPTEN10'. They produced MA-1 jumper, short down jumper, and hood down jumper. The TOPTEN10 X KANGHYUK MA-1 jumper, which was released in a limited number on the day of its opening, was sold out in a short time after online upload. In particular, the navy color of the design was sold out in 10 minutes.
