The Master of Computer Applications (MCA)[1] is a postgraduate degree[citation needed] in computer application stream awarded in India since 1982.[2] Full time MCA programmes normally take place over three academic years.[3] The primary emphasis in MCA curriculum is on development of application software in diverse areas for various organizations rather than designing computer hardware and systems software which is of interest to engineering stream in computer education.[2] More than thousand institutions provide MCA courses[citation needed] in India with an annual intake of more than 55000 students[citation needed].
