User:TPB analysis/sandbox/An Exposition on Cultural Status within Trailer Park Boys
Trailer Park Boys begins in Sunnyvale trailer park, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, a small town where Ricky, Julian and Bubbles have lived their whole life. This area can be classified as a low cultural town with residences of the same stature. The boys are unemployed and strive to make money, even if their plan to do so is against the law. With this being said, having a very low cultural status can make those desperate to create wealth in their life so some turn to criminal activity. This shows that people will go to great depths to provide for themselves and their families which can give an idea towards The German Ideology. The division of class and labor is what determines our actions and how people live their lives.Employment is ultimately determined by opportunity, if an area has economic opportunity than many citizens will develop a higher cultural status. This explains why cities continue to create opportunity for the capitalist society causing a pull factor for all citizens. However, Ricky and the boys have no intention of moving towards a more opportunistic area as they are perfectly content; living the life of crime and freedom to do whatever they please. In season 7, episode 10, the boys formulate a plan to transport weed across the border to the United States via the "Swayze express"- a mobile toy train. This resulted in being confronted by two Wildlife officers, trailer park supervisor and assistant supervisor, also, the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) in the center of the border leaving them with the power over the higher ranks. The boys use their power to their advantage as they negotiate lesser sentences for their crimes. By doing so, this reverses the 'role' of the working class as they have the authority over the ruling class. This example is uncommon considering how the ruling class normally has power over all classes and political issues. That being said, The Trailer Park Boys successfully explains the impact of cultural status and how it determines the lives of others.
