The Dutch ouster of the Spanish on Formosa was a military campaign in 1642 conducted by forces of the Dutch East India Company against the Spanish crown forces in northern Formosa (now known as Taiwan). For some years the Dutch had wished to eject the Spanish from Formosa to complete their dominance over the island and remove a threat to their activities in the region. However, they had lacked the military might to force the Spanish out until supplied with reinforcements from Batavia, at which point they took the north of the island in short order, with the skeleton Spanish garrison unable to offer anything but token resistance.
