Since August

[edit]

Since August a rock band from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. The band forming in 1997 under the name "Even" changed their name to "Since August" after being signed to Canadian record label "Loggerhead Records" who were distributed by "Universal Music Canada".

Original band members of "Since August" included: Doug Larlee (Vocals), Derek McLaughlin (Drums), Joel Green (Bass), Ethan Young-Lai (Lead Guitar, Pat Walsh (Guitar).

Band Biography

[edit]

The band formed in 1997 when Doug Larlee had approached Derek McLaughlin while attending the University of New Brunswick looking to put together a band. Both Larlee and McLaughlin from Perth Andover, New Brunswick, Canada placed flyers up around the Fredericton UNB Campus looking to round out the line-up.

The original line-up of the band then using the name "Even" did not include Joel Green on bass, but Fredericton native Jon Yeamans. Green also from Perth Andover, New Brunswick Canada, later replaced Yeamans in the band in the fall of 1999.

The band (Even) toured Atlantic Canada as a cover band while promoting their original music. Their first release "Corner of the World", which is very rare to find is a 7 song EP that was self recorded by the band.

In summer 2000, the band still performing under the name Even, had entered one of their songs “Can you feel the rain” to a North American Battle of the Bands contest on a website called Beer.com. The band won the contest and was awarded a 3 city tour with stops at: The Docks in Toronto, Ontario, The Mercury Lounge in New York, and The Viper Room in Hollywood, California. During this 3 city tour the band signed a recording contract with Loggerhead Records in August of 2000.

In November 2000 the band now going by the name “Since August” entered the famed studio “Le Studio” in Morin Heights, Quebec to record their debut label release with Producer, Paul Northfield.

The band’s self titled release “Since August” was release in Canada, August 28, 2001. The band had 4 singles from the record: If You, Too Gone, Can It Be, and Garden. Out of the 4 singles the highest charting single was Too Gone reaching #47 on the Canadian National Rock Charts. Guitarist Pat Walsh left the band after their fall 2002 Canada tour. He was replaced by guitarist Jonnie P of Fredericton, New Brunswick.

The band was released from Loggerhead Records when it closed it’s doors in 2003. With no label support the band released their follow up record independently in October 2003. The band broke up in January 2004. After the break-up drummer Derek McLaughlin and guitarist Jonnie Price went to play with local band Push, who later changed their name to “Age of Daze”. Guitarist Ethan Young-Lai went on to play with the band “Sleepy Driver”.
