About Me[edit]

Howdy! I am Kelley. I have been editing on Wikipedia since 2017. I am a new Wikipedian. Recently, I have been given the opportunity to take a course through Webjunction (a Librarian professional development website) to learn how to edit Wikipedia pages. The course "Wikipedia + Libraries: Better Together"[1] began on September 13, 2017. The aim is to bring more librarians into the world of editing Wikipedia pages. It is an amazing concept that I am excited to become a part of, and aligns with so much that I believe in as a librarian.

Professional life: I am a Technology Librarian in Palm Desert, CA. I have been working in public libraries since 2008. In that time, I have been responsible for two different ILS systems (In non-library speak, the ILS (Integrated Library System[2]) is the software that runs the library. There are two databases - one for library patrons and one for library materials. The ILS manager is the person who makes all the changes in the back-end to ensure that both databases are performing as they should be.) I also focus on websites, statistics, databases, and reference work.

Personal life:

  • I love knitting - and have at least one project going at all times. I have knitted a sweater for a chicken (yes, you read correctly), more scarves than I can count, shawls, shawlettes, kerchiefs, a sweater (working on improving that skill), cacti and pumpkins. I really find knitting a relaxing and enjoyable hobby.
  • I love cats - yes I know, stereotypical librarian - and I currently have three. They are my babies.
  • I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I also love other YA authors like Rainbow Rowell and John Green.

Conflict of Interest Statement[edit]

I, Kelley User:TechLibrarian13, am a former employee of Rancho Mirage Public Library and Southern Pines Public Library. I will not make any edits that would not be beneficial to the goals of Wikipedia.

While my editing is sort of all over the map, I do like to improve access to important, free, scholarly sources held in libraries and archives.

I will modify my editing behavior based on problems cited by other editors or if my editing conflicts with other Wikipedia guidelines. I ask that other editors do not hesitate to contact me, via my user talk page, if I appear to be going against this declaration. TechLibrarian13 (talk) 16:07, 19 October 2017 (UTC)
