About Me[edit]

B.A. in Biology and Chemistry from Montclair State University, M.S. in Botany from Ohio University and a Ph.D. in Biology/Tree Physiology from Wake Forest University. Currently Professor of Plant Biology and Curator of the W.J. Beal Botanical Garden and Campus Arboretum at Michigan State University. My key research area focuses on tree responses to abiotic stresses, primarily in the field of thigmomorphogenesis including the influence of wind, ice and snow loading, and gravitropism. I have an interest in logging railroads history, with a focus on Weyerhaeuser owned operations and authored the book "The Logging Railroads of Weyerhaeuser's Vail and McDonald Operations" published by Oso Publishing. I also have an interest and passion for animated films.
