Howdy there, I'm cowboy DYKViews 🤠! This here be my insides. And I'm here tuh help y'all feed the bangtail that is WP:DYKSTATS. See, back in my day, you had to go out there, gather your wheats, bring 'em all in, grind 'em up, and feed 'em to the damn horse. Now, we got this newfangled machine that feeds the horse for ya! This beauty's in AppleScript pie order.
Instructions
[edit]Y'all might need some of them Google Chrome boots for this.
- Install User:theleekycauldron/DYKViews.js by adding
importScript('User:theleekycauldron/DYKViews.js'); // Backlink: [[User:theleekycauldron/DYKViews.js]]
to Special:MyPage/common.js. - Navigate to Wikipedia:Recent additions, or any of its archive pages (e.g. Wikipedia:Recent additions/2021/August)
- On this page, a button labelled "Get views!" will appear near the top-left corner of the page. Do not click it yet.
- Open up the javascript console by right clicking somewhere on the page, clicking "Inspect", and navigating to the "Console" tab, to the right of "Elements" and "Sources".
- Now, click the "Get views!" button. The console will start spitting out a bunch of information, but don't freak; it's just telling you how many views per hour each bolded article got on its DYK date, followed by a "null" if it's below the threshold of 416+2⁄3, or a 🤠 if it crosses it.
Things to implement
[edit]- Support for archived months
- Better user interface/printing statements
- Talk page notification
- Full automation via Leekbot
Common questions
[edit]What's with the cowboy shtick?
[edit]Well you're quite a pi-ddle pot, aren't you?
Can you please explain it without the cowboy shtick?
[edit]I take back what I said before—plumb namby-pamby rusty half-wit flannel-mouthed city-slickin' ten-center, that's what you seem like. Sense of fun like a cactus up my ears. Couldn't squinny a clown, could you? Now, github it, or them pythons in my boots bash you into the bone orchard. *whip cracks*
