History[edit]

The Choroideremia Research Foundation (CRF) is a 501(c) public charity [1] whose mission is to raise funds in support of scientific research leading to a treatment or cure of choroideremia (CHM), a hereditary retinal-degenerative disease that causes blindness, and to educate people affected by the disease and the public [2].

Mission[edit]

CRF has funded research in CHM pathophysiology [3], gene therapy [4], imaging [5], among other areas [6]. The international organization advocates on behalf of CHM patients within both the rare disease and the inherited retinal disease communities [7][8] and provides in person educational conferences and online virtual programs. Volunteers support the organization’s mission by coordinating fundraising events [9][10][11]. Actor EJ Scott, who has been diagnosed with CHM, and his wife, actress Deborah Ann Woll, have both publicly supported CRF since 2017 [12][13].
