The Namibia 2011 Population and Housing Census is the third census to be conducted since independence and is one of government's important tools in terms of planning priorities and activities for social and economic development as well as the provision of public services and amenities.Namibia Population and Housing Census is not just a statistical exercise, it use de facto method which counts all persons within the Namibian borders, regardless of their nationality or citizenship.[2] The census was undertaken interms of Section 3 of the Statistics Act of 1976 and National Planning Commission(NPC) and Central Bureau of Statistics(CBS) was authorised by the Cabinet to undertake this census. Population and Housing Census was conducted from the 28th August 2011 (the reference night) up to the 10th september 2011.[3][

In 2001 Namibia was having a total population of 1 830 330, where by 51.5% of the population are women and 48.5% are men and in 2011 Namibia total population is estimated to be 2 147 585, where by 50.4% of the population are men and 49.6 are women.Estimates for this country explicitly take into account the effects of excess mortality due to AIDS and this can result in lower life expectancy, higher infact mortality, high death rates, lower population growth rates and changes in the distribution of population by age and sex.[4]
