DEBE GUNN, Debe Gunn

DEBE GUNN was born sometime in the 2nd half of the 20th Century and, thanks to the efforts of her Mother, Ginnie Gunn, started learning music at a tender age. It was while she was performing on stage at age 10 that a song’s beauty (“This Is My Country) brought Debe to tears. At that moment, Debe Gunn became aware of her endless love for music and she knew she would be a musician for the rest of her life. Debe went on to study music at the university level (but she says she earned a PhD. at the School of Hard Knocks!), and she toured nationally and internationally as one of the world’s first professional female saxophonists playing in and leading a variety of professional groups, including jazz and country groups in Japan, where she spent a couple of years. All of this was in preparation for what at was to be her true calling – a Songwriter. Debe Gunn was first published by LAHK Records, releasing two of her songs for distribution throughout China and Hong Kong, in which she was also the co-producer. She was also signed to Wemar Music for a time and then Debe went on to work as Songwriter and Co-Producer with The Weisman Production Group in Los Angeles working with such artists as Liz Lee and Valerie. One of her songs released with the Weisman Group was “Don’t Make Me Walk Away.” During this time, Debe Gunn also founded and was Musical Director for Phoenix Risin’ a 10-piece vocal/rap group, which performed for many important events in the LA area. Rosemary Fairchild later released a country album of Debe Gunn songs, which received airplay nationally and internally and one of the songs, Forever American, was featured in a European movie release. In 2006, to further her desire to be a songwriter for the world, Debe lived in Guatemala where she studied Spanish, receiving an Advanced Superior certificate from the prestigious Tecum Uman Institute. While there she created a slide show of her photography using her music, which was viewed, in various locations throughout the United States. Back in the Los Angeles area, Debe continues to write prolifically and also is entering into the world of musical theatre with her new musical, which she plans on launching in late 2007 or early 2008.
