Early Life[edit]

Nelson was born in Mobile, Alabama, the son of Emmitt Nelson and Eunice (Atkins) Nelson. Nelson is a Christian. His family history can be traced from the Punjabi regions of India and Pakistan, through Europe and to the Virginia Settlements in the 1600's. Tim's heritage can be traced to King Edward. Nelson graduated from high school in Pensacola, Florida in 1975. He entered the US Army and served until 1983. Tim is a graduate of Nyack College and Regent University where he earned his MBA. Nelson has post-graduate education in Business ethics (Colorado State) and Certified Financial Planning(University of GA).

Career

Nelson began his career in the US Army. He served from 1975 until 1983. During those years Nelson lived in Germany for 5 years. He was in-charge of all technical support for his unit’s nuclear missiles. Tim was promoted to Staff Sargent (E-6) in 1981 at the age of 21. At the time, he was the youngest solider to be promoted to that rank in the post-Vietnam era.

After he retired from the Army, Tim worked for several large corporations specializing in technical and customer support. He worked with corporations such as Westinghouse, RCA, Kollmorgen, General Electric, Litton, and Bayer Miles, where he won an international award of excellence and creativity from the Society of Technical Communicators.

Tim ran a start-up company, Brown Bag Training, which helped large companies develop world-class service organizations. Tim has written several articles on customer service and fundraising and is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.

Tim is currently the CEO of the Midlands Technical College Foundation where he is revamping the fundraising infrastructure. Tim gives back by providing pro-bono consulting to small or mid size not-for-profits to help them create more robust fundraising operations and highly functioning boards.

Personal Life

Nelson resides in Lexington, SC with his wife, Christine and two wonderful dogs. They have four grown children and a granddaughter. Tim has served as a Committee Member for Feeding America Southwest Virginia. He also served as a Commissioner for the Parks and Recreation Department, Montgomery County, VA. He is past-president of the Armed Forces Benefit and Aid Society (El Paso Chapter) and was a board member of Marriage Savers in NY. Tim is involved with Brazilian Ju Jitsu, is a tri-athlete and serves on mission teams with his church.
