My Histroy on CP Royal Hudson 2860[edit]

Canadian Pacific 2860 is a H1E 'Royal Hudson' class 4-6-4 type steam locomotive built in 1940 by the Montreal Locomotive Works. 2860 is one of the 'Royal Hudsons' that are streamlined. 2860 was retired in the 50s. No.2860 is on display, but opreated excrusions from 1974-1999, and then again from 2007-2010.

Design and Construction[edit]

The H class hudsons were built in the 30s and 40s and were the supplment to the G class 4-6-2 pacifics that had been introduced eariler in the 20th Centruy. the first 21 engines were non-streamlined (numbers 2800-2820, of which surviving 2816 is part of) The rest of the class was streamlined. In 1939, during the visit of King Goerge, along with his wife, named the streamlined hudsons 'Royal Hudsons' after Hudson number 2850 pulled their train on CP trackage, and its why these streamlined hudsons are called 'Royal hudsons' (The locomotives 2800-2820 are not streamlined, thus making them not royal hudsons.)

Reveune Service[edit]

No.2860, along with her other sisters, were assigned to the CP's Transcontiel passenger express trains along the system. The locomotives pulled these trains flawlessy, and thus was deemed succesful. No.2860 was retried from reveune service in 1959 and sat in a scrapyard.

Restroation and 20th century excursion service[edit]

In 1974, BC rail aquried the 2860, with plans to restore it back to opreation. the 2860 was moved, and then restored to opreation with plans to opreate between North Vancover, BC and Squisamh. In 1986, It appeared at Steam Expo, and was one of the few Canadian engines there. It also perfomed doubleheaders with other engines such as Canadian National 6060. in 1999, as No.2860 was getting ready for some chritmas trains, it was found that the tubes were leaking, and thus had to be retired from excursion service. Since CP 2816 was under restroation at that time, the chritmas trains could not be pulled by a Canadian Steam engine that was opreated in the Main line.

21st century excursion service[edit]

in 2006, the locomotive was moved and then underwent a 1 year restroation and opreated in excursion service from 2007-2010, during this she mainliny hauled trains on tourist railroads but sometimes hauled mainline trains. By the time this took place, 2816 was steamed up and so was 6060, so it was possbile that these locomotives could perform a tripleheader, but 2860 was retired before this could happen.

Current Status[edit]

No.2860 is currtleny on display at the West Coast Heritage park and is currtleny awaiting its third restration. At one time it was said that 2860 was said to be in steam but only saluted passenger trains passing by, but it was never offical.
