Stephen Alexander (born June 25, 1978 in Glocester, Rhode Island) is a coach, public speaker, activist, teacher, and author in the field of transgender sports and activism.

Biography[edit]

Alexander (b. June 25, 1978 was born in Glocester, Rhode Island. He was a multi-sport athlete and led his high school teams to quite a few state championships in several sports. Alexander graduated from University of Connecticut (MSW), Rhode Island College (M.Ed. in Severe Intellectual Disabilities), and Stonehill College (B.A. Psychology/Religious Studies).

Stephen earned many titles while in school and was a part of many winning teams. He earned Most Valuable Player for the state soccer tournament when the team won the Division II State Title in 1992. He earned 1st Team All-Division and All-Class for Tennis the year that the team won Ponaganset’s first State Championship. Stephen earned the rank of 2nd Team for All-Division, All-Class and All-State when he and his teammates took the volleyball team to back-to-back Class A North Division titles.

Adding to a long list of Stephen’s athletic accomplishments is the astonishing basketball performances that left a truly respected legacy at Ponaganset. Throughout four winter seasons of basketball, he contributed to four Class A State Championships. During his final championship game, he scored 25 points; he was 9 for 9 from the free throw line and 16 of those points came in the last quarter. He earned 1st Team All-State two seasons in a row, became a member of the 1,000-point club, was named a First Team Woonsocket Call All-Star for three seasons and was Ponaganset’s only athlete to achieve All Tournament Team status three years in a row. Stephen and his 1996 teammates were recognized as ranking 4th in New England as well as being inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.

Stephen is very proud of the wins and titles he earned but this pride is secondary to the appreciation he has for the greatness that was achieved by a group of talented players and coaches by harnessing the power found in working hard as a team towards a common goal.

Stephen proudly continues to represent the Chieftains as a teacher and coach in soccer, basketball and baseball throughout the Ponaganset community. He also enjoys his time public speaking, writing, and spending time with his friends and family. Stephen is a very proud uncle to his niece and nephew, Amber and Ian.

Alexander presently lives in Glocester with his business partner, lawyer, agent, best friend Ricky Roman Bonilla, Esq.Bonilla is a gay veteran, lawyer, ativist, public speaker, life coach, and collaborates fulltime with Alexander to spread equality.
