THE ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK

INTRODUCTION

Etosha National Park is one of Southern Africa's most important game reserves. Etosha has different meanings depending on different tribes, some say it is the Great White Place and others say it is the Place of dry water.

HOW WAS IT FORMED?

When Etosha was formed in the year 1907, it was seen as the largest game reserve in the world, during that time Namibia was a German colony called South West Africa. The San people believe that the pan was formed by the tears of a woman who cried for the death of her family.

WHY SHOULD YOU VISIT?

There are 150 different mammal species and this include rare and endangered species. Between June and November game lovers can come and watch the game at the different waterholes. If you are a bird lover, you can also see the flamingos that come to the salt pan each year after the heavy rains. The park is a malaria free zone.

THE REST CAMPS

There are 3 camps namely Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni. Okaukuejo and Namutoni have floodlit at the waterholes, so people can go and see the animals that come to the waterhole in the night.

CONCLUSION

I have only been to the Etosha National Park once, but it was the most wonderful experience of my life. I saw so many different animals and the views were really magnificent. In my opinion Etosha National Park is nothing less than magnificent, it has put our country on the global map and even after that it has so much to offer for the Namibian nation and the world at large.
